This one is for the girls. Specifically, the girls who always stay a little messy, who could never quite get their hair to fall neat, who could never really pull a nice outfit together. Size medium but invisible girls. Never-heard-of-Brandy Melville girls. Loser girls. B+ girls. Stoner girls. Too dark at the function girls. God complex girls. Something to everyone because you’ve got an approval kink girls. Smart, but not booksmart girls. Uncomfy in low-rise jeans girls. Pretty, but not hot girl pretty girls. Usually harnessing it into some irresistible combination of quirk and aloofness, but kinda tired right now and just wishing they could assimilate for two seconds girls.
lyrics
I hope somebody on this airplane’s talking to God because
I lost touch, it would be impolite
to show up asking favors after all this time
I hope somebody at this party feels like a dime in their
low-rise jeans, I don’t feel good in mine
but I’m gonna keep dancing like it’s ‘99.
I just want your love
(I really wish that I could say a prayer right now)
I just want your love
(I really wish that I could say a prayer right now)
God, you make me nervous
You do it on purpose
I don’t believe in angels but they’re in the numbers all the time
I hope somebody out there feels like they have finally got it right
Struck a nice lyrical density
Got the high without the intensity
I just want your love
(I really wish that I could say a prayer right now)
I just want your love
(I really wish that I could say a prayer right now)
God, you make me nervous
You do it on purpose
I wish I were a little more readable
Little bit less esoteric, more breedable
I wish I looked good in my low-rise jeans
I wish I looked good in my low-rise jeans
I don’t believe in god but I think that he’s a Gemini
Everyone I’ve loved has had a name from the Bible
I’m jealous of the dishes for getting clean
If we’re going down, baby just kiss me
I just want your love
(I really wish that I could say a prayer right now)
I just want your love
(I really wish that I could say a prayer right now)

Even better the original. The fuzzy guitars create this warm, enveloping wall of sound that makes this classic a lot richer than Sheryl Crow's version. Allison's stout-hearted vocals, tinged with a subtle shade of blue, deliver some of the most resolute, optimistic lyrics in pop music with finesse and nostalgia. purelyanecdotal
I think it's difficult to write songs about something other than romantic love, and still be able to communicate the intensity with which those feelings can hit a person. Some of the entries on this album are fantastic examples of this niche. dani_bloop
A sprawling, 25-song set from Pete Yorn complete with covers of Springsteen and The Smiths capture him at his unguarded best. Bandcamp New & Notable May 16, 2020
Released in 2001, “The Convincer” is a gentle gem in the Nick Lowe catalog; an anniversary edition provides opportunity for rediscovery. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2021
